New Safety Training Standard for Working at Heights - Coming Summer 2014

If your workers currently require fall protecction/fall arrest training, then you will be affected by changes coming Summer 2014 to the standards for this training.

The following is a quote from the bulletin issued on the Ministry of Labour's website:

"A workplace training standard has been created to prevent falls and improve safety for workers who work at heights.

The standard will initially be voluntary and will apply to workplaces in the construction sector, as well as to construction activity in other workplaces. The standard is expected to become mandatory by the summer of 2014 and will later be expanded to all sectors."  Visit http://www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/hs/standard_wah.php for further information and details.

All trades working with us at that time will need to provide proof that their workers' training meets or exceeds the new standard.  If you would like to be pro-active and have your workers ready for this new change, IHSA's Working at Heights training meets the requirements of the new standard.  You can find training dates and locations by visiting their website www.ihsa.ca and clicking on the "training" tab.

Health and Safety - Is Your Company Ready For New Requirements July 2014

Is your company ready for the changes that are taking effect in July, 2014.  At that time it is mandatory that all workers and supervisors covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act receive Health and Safety Awareness training.

We will be requiring all trades working with us to provide proof of compliance with these requirements.

Don't panic.  The required training is available online at no charge through the Ministry of Labour website.  The training can be completed online or you can download the documents.  Visit www.labour.gov.on.ca/english/hs/training/index.php

To properly orientate your workers specifically to construction, many resources are available through the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA), formerly Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO).  Many of the resources are free to members and can be downloaded.  If you pay WSIB premiums in a rate group that starts with the number 7, you are a member.  Visit them at
www.ihsa.ca and review their products and training available.
